Metaphorically Speaking
Last night I passed a man who snatched my apple right out of my hand, pushed me into the snow, then hovered over me with his arms crossed tight across his chest and sneering, his eyes yelled, "What are you going to do about it?" I was stunned, incensed, my own eyes welling with tears and indignation. My companion goaded me to "kick him where it hurts" which jolted reason back through my skull. Our professed Christian Ideals flashed through my mind. I took several deep breaths and I Decided to kill him with kindness. I calmly offered him the apple which was already in his hand. I said, "I have a whole tree full at home. I would be honored if you would accept this apple. I will even bring extra for next time we meet." He halted. Shamed, He tried to give the apple back. But I was sincere in my offering, and he was rather attached. So he said "Thank you" and turned and walked away.
