I am going to post another story Eva wrote even though these type of posts are long.
Rue's Journal- Property of Rue Warhun.
Saturday, February 7th 2010 Evening
It is snowing outside my little house. Snow, my favorite weather, on my favorite day: My 10th birthday. Although it is cold and gray outside, in the living room of my little house everything is warm and cheerful. Kat and I each got a journal to
"write our feelings in," as Mama said. I don't think Kat will use hers. She's not a writer, like I am. My journal, as you can see if you close this page and look, has a dark blue leather cover with a golden mockingbird stamped on one corner. The leather feels and smells new and I like to run my fingers across it. I hope this journal is a good substitute for a living friend, because I don't have any besides Cinco. Cinco is a beautiful, tall Red Maple. His leaves are a breathtaking sight in the fall, the sun making dappled patterns on the ground as I watch from the highest branch. I tell Cinco everything from, "Mama bought more Pina Colada today!" to "Draco aced his math test. Yes, that really hard one he was nervous about." to "The others ignored me again at school. What's wrong with me, Cinco? Why dosen't anyone like me?" Because it's true. No one likes me. I think its because I told Christina Valentine that my best friend was a tree in first grade. Everyone steered clear of me after that. Mmmm, Mama's makiing bacon and Daddy's making eggs. My birthday dinner. I'll write more tomorrow. ~R.E.W. Rue Evelyn Warhun

Church soon. I don't have much time to write. I had a bottle of pina colada this moring. Draco, my older brother, makes fun of me for it, but I love to sit at the tall kitchen counter and drink a cool glass of pineapple-y goodness. Peter, my 7 year old brother, told me that a new family is moving in next door. Kat says she hopes they have a little girl to babysit. I hope they have a friend for me, but who wants a plain, dark-haired, green-eyed, short, tree-loving girl for a friend? -Rue

I shouldn't have doubted Peter. A new kid showed up at school today, a boy. He's in my class. Kat, who sits across from me, caught my eye. She raised her eyebrows and grinned, her head inclined toward him- he sits next to me. Kat's hair falls only to her ears, but mine is long and silky and dark as night. I shook my head slightly. Kat, Kat, Kat. She astounds me sometimes.
The boy's name is S something. I forgot it, but I didn't forget his face. Not too round, with dusty brown hair and pale gray eyes. He's taller than me by about an inch or so. All the girls in my class immediately marked him as the "cute new boy." He seems friendly, but shy. He only smiled once- at me! I almost forgot to smile back in my surprise. Maybe I will make a new friend this week. I hope so. ~Rue E. Warhun

We got more snow today. Not enough to cancel school, but enough to sled. I got out my gear straight after school. Kat and I took Peter with us. I got a new purple sled for my birthday, and I wanted to try it out. We raced to the big hill behind my house. Peter trailed behind. I reached the dip first and guess who I saw? It was him again. I guess I shouldn't be surprised- he does live next door, after all. I walked over to him, trying hard to remember his name. Stewart? Simon? He looked up. "Hi! he said, jumping to his feet." Im Skye.
Skye. How interesting. "Rue Warhun. From eastport Elementary. " "Yeah. My mom told me there was someone my age next door. I didn't know it'd be a girl." He teased. I pretended to be offended. "Nothing wrong with girls!" He grinned. "'Course not, I just thought my first real friend would be a boy." "Real friend? What do you mean? It's okay, you can tell me," I added. "Well, you promise not ot tell anyone at school?" Skye looked around to make sure no one was listening. Kat and Peter were at the bottom of the hill trudging up for another ride down. "I promise. I mean, I don't have anyone to tell, anyways." I looked down. "No, no, that's perfect! I mean, I don't have any real friends and you dont have any real friends either, so we could be friends. He waited for me to respond. I smiled. A grin lit his face too. "But, if we're going to be friends, then I will introduce you to my only friend." I dragged him to my house. Cinco was standing, proud and tall beside my window. "This is Cinco," I proclaimed. Skye laughed. "Dosen't Cinco mean five?" I pointed up. "Isn't that the sky?" I retaliated! He laughed and admitted he had a pretty wierd name. I said I did, too. "It means regret," I explained. "Your turn. You said real friends, Skye, so who'se your fake friend?" I leaned against Cinco, waiting for Skye's answer. "Okay, Okay, m'lady," Skye said with a fake british accent. "My best friend is my cat, Tickle." "Wonderful," I replied in an equally pretend accent. Noticing my sled for he first tie and his gray one clutched in his cold hands he asked if I wanted to race him down the hill. I answered yes and beat him. "Rematch!" he yelled, and ran up again. "Anytime" I shouted back. And that, ye who reads private diaries, is how I got my first friend. ~Rue Evelyn Warhun REW:)
