Exhausted

Friday night the house was rockin'. We had 6 extra kids while their parents were out of town. The kids were behaving well, stayed up all hours of the night and by lunchtime Saturday 10 tired kids were getting ornery but still manageable. Then, tragedy struck. John was working out in the yard. Building yet another rock wall. Dropped a 150+lb. boulder crushing his hand between the rock and a hard place (the house). Well, Im not your best bet in the face of blood. John was in the worst pain he can imagine. I hyperventalated all the way to the hospital. I yelled something to the effect of "Bailey you are in charge (she's 11)" and out the door. I was still in panic telling the Doctor to get him something for the pain immediately. I couldnt breathe until John confirmed the nerve block was in place. I did manage to call a neighbor to come over and sit with the kids. The ER had incredibly quick response. Thank Heaven for nerve blocks, the ER staff, ect. John got cleaned up and stocked with pain medication. It's not completely managing the pain but he cant see a hand surgeon till Monday morning. I'll spare you the pictures he took with his cell because frankly, noone wants to see that. Think mincemeat, you could very clearly see the crushed bones. enough said. As soon as John could speak, (nerve block in place) he was cracking jokes. Made new BFF's of everyone in the ER. Some seemed hesitant to chuckle at his pain, but not for long. Laughter, if not medicine, is a great diversion. The pain medication only added punchy fuel. Joking aside. This is a pretty scary situation. We are praying an expert hand surgeon can work a miracle. Luckily, left hand, his job is probably secure, but in his medicated state he is considering stand up comedy as a backup.

Yikes! That is horrible. I hope the surgeon will be able to restore John's hand to it's normal functioning state. I guess that means no Rock Band for awhile...just trying to keep the jokes coming...really though, we hope John's hand will be okay.

I mentioned to my boss about John's accident and my boss highly recommends his old bishop, Bryce D. Allred. Apparently he is one of the best reconstructive surgeons around and specializes in hands. I am sure you have found someone but if you haven't or don't like the one you've seen, try this guy.
