Crystal has the innate need to refuse to acknowledge when she's beaten. Today is a good example. She was in a collision with a man in a truck. The truck won. Our beloved van was towed away to be repaired and I was left with Crystal. She insisted she wasn't hurt or mentally affected by the accident. She played it well enough that I took her to work. Evidently, the climb up the stairs to her work caused a considerable amount of pain so that when she arrived at her desk her coworkers created a human shield between her and her chair. They refused to let her sit down and physically drove her from the building. They then put her in the back seat of a car, engaged the child safety locks so she couldn't tuck and roll before the car left the parking lot, and drove her home.
Once she was home she called me and told me she was fine. She believed a bath would cure all that ailed her. I didn't believe her so I came home. I found her in the tub where she said her hip hurt. But only her hip. Of course her definition of hip meant the whole left side of her body with sharp pains in her neck, pelvis, and foot. I took her to the emergency room.
The doctor confirmed nothing was broken but she had better plan on some pain for the next 3 days. Crystal immediately and loudly proclaimed she would go to work tomorrow. We'll see what happens.
Here's the poor van:
