anti-establishment

One of the resons I did not LOVE working at the kids school was the one-size-fits-all INherent in the system. Friday Nicole's teacher sent home a paper that said, "Your child is missing 0 (Zero) assignments, please sign and return this paper." Which I immediately lost. Monday, Nicole had to Stay In For Recess and write lines for not bringing it back signed. Are you kidding me? The angel kid is missing ZERO assignments. So I dug it out of my junk pile and signed it. Then she immediatly lost it. Tuesday (today) they made her stay in AGAIN! Why am I so furious? How does this punishment fit the crime? I know it makes Zero sense but Im keeping her home from school tomorrow. If they arent going to be reasonable, neither am I. My friend told me yesterday that she didn't see me as a control freak. How do you like me now? When it comes to our kids, arent we all Freaks?

I know this wasn't intended to be funny, and it is really annoying, but I got a good laugh anyway. Not at you, but at the way the world goes. It is simply amazing. At least they didn't rap her knuckles with a ruler.

holy cow! one of the gazillion reasons why i HATE public schools! and in middle school it's worse! they just sit there following silly procedures that make NO sense. if they can't think for themselves, how are they going to teach our kids to?

This reminded me of a story my neighbor told me. Her kids are in high school, and they are the bright, brainy sort. Every year they have to take some sort of standardized test to "measure their intelligence". As an incentive, the school hosts a pizza party for all of the students who show a certain rate of improvement. Her kids are always sitting in some classroom, twiddling their thumbs, staring at the wall, being penalized for not improving. What they don't recognize is these kids have been acing the test all along... but because they don't show any improvement (which they can't because they are at the top of their game) they aren't invited to eat pizza. It all incenses me! You are not being irrational! I would do the same thing!

Crystal--this is an example of why I will always LOVE you! You will not back down if you believe in something. Stay strong, and always fight for your kids.
